MUSICAL TIPS

TIP #1---Ever been stuck without an electronic tuner, pitchpipe, or any method of getting your instrument in tune, when you'd do just about anything to get a reference tone? No problem, just pick up the phone, and...no, no...don't call us, just listen to the dialtone! It's very close to an "F" note, anywhere in the United States, and maybe in some other countries, too.

Although, in Holland, and perhaps all of Europe, they prefer something like a G#+. Must be they don't have any musicians working for the phone company.

Guitar players can use this "F" note to tune the first string at the first fret, then just tune the rest of your guitar to that string. Call it a Teletuner.

~~~
TIP #2--When recording an acoustic guitar, mandolin, banjo, etc., try using two or three microphones from different angles and distances from the instrument. Experiment by aiming microphones at the body, neck, perhaps even from behind. If you have a built-in pickup, use it also, and then blend all tracks together on one, or create a stereo split with one tonality on one side, and a different sound on the other. Results? Big, fat sound, with more character and dynamics than you'll get with just one microphone.
Got a special tip or trick? Email it to us! We'll publish the really good ones, and we'll give you credit for submitting it!
